The Flamethrower works well in this fight, as do the Pulse Rifle’s proximity mines, but even just a few clips of Plasma Cutter ammo will get you through.
The best ammo is the ammo you have, so there’s no wrong answer here. Until then, and with all the panicking and fleeing and shooting wildly that goes along with learning, let’s talk about what will help you out in the Brute fight. This fight is way more imposing than it is difficult, and, once you learn the tricks, you won’t need to prepare much at all. Working roughly counterclockwise, you’ll find Flamethrower fuel, some Credits, more Credits, Ripper Blades, and more Ripper blades. Be preparedīefore anything else (you might have to revert to a previous save), clear the items around the Main Atrium. If you're struggling with the bombs use more stasis to reduce the number of bombs he can launch in the time it takes to kill him. He will not move anymore and, as long as you don't fail to catch one of his bombs, cannot damage you. From here just continue to play pitch and catch with the bombs and replace the line gun mine at his feet whenever it detonates. While he is stunned switch to the line gun and shoot its alt-fire mine at his feet. Catch the first bomb with telekinesis and fire it back at him. When it gives out he will get up and start shooting exploding organic bombs at you from his chest. Wheel around and stasis the brute from behind and begin blasting the knee joint on one of his legs. Face him head on, and then as he begins to charge you, run toward him but an angle to one side or the other so that you pass each other. He will jump down into the arena-like area with you and start to perform charge attacks. The first brute appears in the transport hub in chapter 6.
